Introduction

Welcome to Buckingham College School

Buckingham College is small enough to make sure that every teacher comes to know every student; large enough to offer a broad curriculum and a wide range of sports and activities.

We take great care to appoint teachers who combine professional expertise with enthusiasm and patience. Our teachers see their role extending beyond the classroom, committing themselves to an extra-curricular programme, which develops students' current interests and introduces them to new ones.

We also know that self-motivation and self-discipline are essential to success in adult life. To achieve this, we provide firm discipline and a caring environment, in which students are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for themselves, and to seek challenges both in their work and their leisure.

Did you know?

  • We are an ISA accredited school.
  • Buckingham College was 75 years old in January 2012.
  • We have 2 members of staff with PhDs.
  • Last year, Buckingham College achieved a 100% A* to C pass rate at GCSE and we were placed 45th in the country.
  • Buckingham College is a very diverse school with 15 different languages being spoken at home, with links back to 32 different countries.
  • Last year we have raised over £1,000 for charity with many of our 6th Formers also donating blood. Supporting charity is a big part of being a student at Buckingham College School and we hope to raise even more this year.
  • Mr Larter, our Headmaster, sat as a magistrate, sitting in the Adult and Family Courts for some time. He takes the students for PSHCE.
  • We have ‘smartboards’ installed in several of our classrooms
  • We have 3 separate science labs.
  • We teach Latin, French, German, and Spanish.
  • Last summer the Head Boy was offered a place at the Bristol Medical School.
  • The school provides a 1 to 5 staff-pupil ratio.
  • We pride ourselves on our inclusive environment. In 2010, the ISA inspection team commented on our ‘family atmosphere’ and said that the boys felt safe in their environment.
  • There are 4 school houses, which compete for merits and in sporting events. They are Greek, Trojan, Carthage and Spartan.
  • Boys are encouraged to join our extra-curricular activities and trips. Last year there have been trips to the theatre, the science museum, a trip to a television studio, tree planting, several sporting events and much more. This will of course continue throughout this year.
  • We regularly play football against local schools.
