Introduction

At Buckingham College we are committed to providing a broad curriculum based around a core of traditional subjects.

In the first three years of the lower school we broaden the boys' exposure to languages both modern and ancient. Commencing in Year 7 with French, Latin and Spanish, and continuing with the addition of German in Year 8.

In Year 9 boys specialise to French and German either or both of which can be carried forward as GCSE options into Year 10. New boys also get a taster of ICT, Business Studies and Drama.

Early entry of GCSE examinations in Year 10 is encouraged. The Religious Studies short course GCSE is taken by all boys and the most able mathematicians can sit the full GCSE in Year 10 with a view to sitting the additional GCSE in Further Mathematics in Year 11.

Double English (Language and Literature) and triple science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) are also offered at GCSE level. The combined course GCSE Business Economics which incorporates elements of Business Studies and Economics is a popular option.

In the sixth form we offer a level of flexibility in subject choices which is quite unusual in a small school - often there are as many different subject selections as students, and more subjects too.

At A-level students can chose from all three sciences, Mathematics and Further Mathematics, French, German, History, Law, ICT, Business Studies, Economics, and any other subject which can be delivered by our highly experienced staff (eg Psychology, Government and Politics, Geography, and Accounting have all been offered recently).

In this way we aspire to offer a bespoke education in which the individual is nurtured to achieve the best that he can.
